Montana de Luz

Montana de Luz is a non-profit organization that cares for children with HIV/AIDS in Honduras. Its priority is to help these children heal, thrive and grow as they experience the love of God in their daily lives. In June 2006, a member of our youth group spent a week of service at Montana de Luz and came back so enthusiastic about her experience that in June 2007 we sent an intergenerational group from our church to share a week of service at Montana de Luz. A second trip is being planned in the summer of 2008.

Mennonite Mission Network (MMN)

Mennonite Mission Network exists to lead, mobilize and equip the church to participate in holistic witness to Jesus Christ in a broken world. MMN works to engage people and cultures with the gospel of Jesus Christ by starting and cultivating missional congregations, and by fostering a missional identity in the church.

Sharing With Appalachian People (SWAP)

SWAP is a service opportunity under Mennonite Central Committee. Using the efforts of volunteers, SWAP addresses sub-standard housing in eastern Kentucky. Participants work with and for local clients, sharing the message of God's love and building relationships that serve to enrich all involved. Our Senior Youth group participated in a week of service in Kentucky in 2006. It was such a positive experience that they have elected to do a second trip which is being planned in the summer of 2008.

YWCA Family Center

On the second Tuesday of each month, we work in partnership with the North Broadway United Methodist Church to provide a meal at the YWCA Family Shelter for homeless families. The Family Center provides shelter, meals, and comprehensive support to families without homes. Volunteers provide homeless families with basic human needs: shelter, safety, and sustenance with a spirit of warmth and hospitality. In this environment, guests are able to maintain their dignity. The kindness of hosts helps to diminish the hurt of homelessness, and both volunteers and guests grow and learn from each other. Sample opportunities: preparing food, games and activities with children.
