Christian Education Classes

You are invited to join us during our Christian Education hour beginning at 11 am. We have Christian Education classes for people of all ages.

We use the acclaimed Gather 'Round curriculum for our children and youth. Gather 'Round is Bible story-centered, with an emphasis on strengthening the connection between church and home, discipleship, and peace and justice issues. The curriculum helps to nurture children in their faith formation process and explores what it means to follow in the footsteps of Jesus in Christian community.

The goal of our adult Sunday school program is to help us:

  • learn about the Bible and other key texts related to living lives of faith,
  • grow to know and care about each other more deeply,
  • make connections between what we are taught and how we are living our faith, and to practice faith and spiritual disciplines.

Each quarter, we offer a variety of class options including study of the scriptures and discussion/study on contemporary faith issues. Our church bulletin provides the current topics and locations of our classes.

Our adult offerings for this quarter are:

What Makes You Tick? will feature sharing from different people within our congregation about their passion, hobby or vocation. God has created us all as unique beings with unique interests. By honoring and sharing our God-given desires with one another, we edify the community of Christ. Please join us each week as we learn about each others' passions. You may be pleasantly surprised by what you hear!

Bible Study: God's Call to the Christian Community will use the adult Gather 'Round curriculum and the same scripture/stories that our children & youth use in their classes. This quarter looks at passages in the Gospel of Luke that deal with the way God calls individuals into the community of faith, to live out the purpose for which it was created. In December, we will look at God's call at Christmas and beyond; in January, the awareness of God's instruction; and in February, God summons us to respond. This class will be co-lead by Martin Spencer and Al Bauman.

The Hunger For Healing 12 Step Class is designed for anyone on a spiritual journey of growth and healing, not simply those with drug and alcohol addictions. The class uses a textbook and workbook by theologian J. Keith Miller, a videotape series and lots of personal sharing to move through the 12 Steps most widely associated with Alcoholics Anonymous. The class will continue through May. Newcomers are welcome at anytime. Winter quarter we will focus on Steps 5-8. This class meets in Room 23.

In addition to these three classes, we will offer the following options at alternative times outside of the Sunday morning Sunday school hour.

Inquirers' Class discusses the core beliefs of the Mennonite Church, the ministries, beliefs and community life of CMC, and other questions which the participants bring. Steve Goering will lead this class. This class is not specifically a membership class; however, CMC does ask people interested in formally joining CMC to participate in this class experience. Please contact our pastor, Steve Goering for meeting dates/times at 614-784-9002.

Book Study of The Dance of the Dissident Daughter by Sue Monk Kidd. Participants will be responsible for the discussion and direction this class takes. We will meet for six weeks from January 22-February 26 beginning at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome.
