Accessibility at Columbus Mennonite Church

On April 24, 2000, the National Organization on Disability named Columbus Mennonite Church an "Accessible Congregation." This means we are committed to the following three goals:

  1. In our congregation, people with disabilities are valued as individuals, having been created in the image of God.

  2. Our congregation is endeavoring to remove barriers of architecture, communications and attitude that exclude people with disabilities from full and active participation.

  3. People, with and without disabilities, are encouraged in our congregation to practice their faith and use their gifts and talents in worship, service, study, and leadership.

This designation as an "Accessible Congregation" does not mean that we have reached the promised land of accessibility. But it does mean that we intend to work toward fuller accessibility over time. Along with over 1,100 other congregations, we are now listed on the NOD website. Click here for more information about the National Organization on Disability.

We currently offer the following accessibility features:

  • Parking
Our parking lot, located on the north side of the building, has two handicapped parking spaces.
  • Barrier-Free Access to the Main Level
Our new main entrance provides barrier-free access directly from the parking lot to the main level.
  • Automatic Doors
Automatic doors for easy access to the church.
  • Elevator
Located just inside the main entrance, our new elevator
makes all floors of the building accessible.
  • Ramps
Two of four entrances from the parking lot have a ramp leading directly to the main level. In addition, we have a ramp inside the building leading to a men's restroom and a women's restroom.
  • Hearing Assistance
You may pick up one of our six hearing assisted devices at the rear of the sanctuary and take it with you to your seat, with your choice of headphones or ear buds.
  • Large Print Hymnals
Three large-print hymnals are available at the rear of the sanctuary for you to take to your seat.
  • Improved Lighting
The new lights in our sanctuary give us about 200% more light than our previous lighting fixtures.
