Guidelines for Collecting the Offering

Thank you for agreeing to collect the offering. You will note on the map of the sanctuary below that the aisles are numbered 1 to 6. These numbers correspond with the assigned position you received from Worship Commission and indicates where you are to stand when collecting the offering.

1. Before worship, pick up the offering plates and take them with you to your seat. They are kept on the lower shelf of the table underneath the loft. Each person needs one plate to pass to his/her partner. The person in position 6 will need to pass a plate to the outside section as well as assist person #5 with the right center section.

It is less distracting if the offering takers take their positions in the back of the sanctuary and walk forward when the music starts.

When you’re finished have one person or a parent and child take the offering up front and place on the worship table or platform as appropriate.

Other suggestions:

  • If your child is helping take the offering, you might want to come early the first time and walk through it ahead of time.

  • Note: Positions 2 & 3 are now typically filled by one person, and 4 & 5 can be filled by one person as well if needed. One person can handle the middle aisles by passing the plates on both sides of the aisle.

  • If you can’t be there, please find a substitute or call the contact person on Worship Commission.

  • A copy of this sheet will be kept with the offering plates in case you want to refer to it.

These are suggestions to help make things easier not rules written in concrete. Above all, remember that you are offering your service to the “glory of God.”
